Hey guys! Happy Friday to each and every one of you. It feels like it has been forever since I actually sat down to blog. I got ahead of the game and pre-wrote (is that even a thing?) a lot of posts so sitting here to do a Friday post feels a little foreign!
My fabulous summer sitter, Sara, is now back in school. Her last day helping regularly was the 10th. My kids miss her so badly and I do too. I’m so thrilled she can help me out here and there this fall. When the kids see her on September 7th I know they will be thrilled to pieces!
Eeeek – my computer died. I had had it about eight years and it tanked on me. Just flat out died, y’all! I guess eight in computer years is the human equivalent to like five hundred? Anyway, I am now using an Asus Notebook and I love the thing. It is small, light, perfect *thus far*, and has nothing I used to edit photos and make graphics with before. Sigh. I guess it happens. So my blog posts will be ultra boring and will require me to utilize any humor I can muster up to keep you interested sans many graphics.
Yes, I lost everything when the computer died. Shut up.
It is August and that means family vacation. We enjoyed a shorter version of our regular August vacation on Tuesday. We had a great time on the North Carolina coast (our favorite because it is home.) Last Saturday we loaded up and headed east. Due to a detour (that added an hour to our trip) we went through Kinley, NC which has a massive truck stop. Since it was around the lunch hour we stopped in and the kids would have probably been happy just vacationing in the truck stop. And you think I’m kidding…
When we finally got to Wilmington we celebrated by stopping for McDonald’s ice cream. I know that sounds crazy and maybe I should have precluded that by saying – my kids pee all the time. We had to make several potty stops and the last one (just minutes from our destination) was celebrated with a good ole dollar cone at the MCD’s.
We hadn’t been to Carolina Beach, North Carolina since our son was one year old. It has changed a bit! Our accomodations were a sweet little condo at Cabana. The guys we rented from left a tray of snacks for the kids, sunglasses, and a sweet note. I liked the condo because it reminded me of Mexico. If you have been reading the blog then you know I fell in love with Mexico this spring. Of course it was the decorum that reminded me of Mexico and no we did not need to throw our toilet paper in a trash can.
Upon arrival we changed into our swimsuits and headed to the beach. Straight into the ocean the kids went. For me? It was a little chilly and felt more like September than August.
The next day the weather wasn’t too fabulous so the husband and I took the kids to the USS North Carolina Battleship. I hadn’t been since I was a little kid so it was neat going back as an adult. My husband was in heaven because he’s all about the mechanical aspect of the ship. The kids? They ADORED it. Our daughter even enjoyed it. Since I’m claustraphobic I skipped many levels. However, I did remember the ones I decided to pass up because I mean who wants to have a heart attack on vacation?
After the ship we enjoyed lunch on the River Walk. After we left my daughter said, “I think I’m going to throw up. My mouth is watering.” Within ten seconds she was walking and blowing groceries. Kudos to my husband who stepped up to the plate as I scurried away to get her water.
My poor girl must have had a bug because the next day my husband was in bed all day. The culprit? His stomach.
Little Man and I enjoyed the beach while the other two were hold up in the room. Luckily, Cammy B got to feeling better and was able to join us.
On our way home from vacation we stopped in at the outlet mall in Smithfield and purchased clothes to get the kids ready to go back to school. Justice shorts for $6? Yes! Carter’s had a great sale going on too. I’m not sure about you but for my son I prefer Carter’s clothing over all other clothing. When my kids were itty bitty babies I preferred it too. I swear it doesn’t stain like other clothing does and it really does last.
While we were gone my mom kept Cocoa for us. I think they sorta loved each other.
I’m back on my regular work out cycle. It feels so good to be back on my schedule. Running, Les Mills Combat, and Sprint are currently my schedule. I try to get in runs/elliptical on Mondays and Fridays and the other two are on Wednesday/Thursday respectively. Pretty soon I will be detoxing…I know you just cannot wait for those posts <ha ha ha!>
The summer is coming to a close now. We are ten days from school starting for my daughter. My son’s birthday is six days away. Vacation is over. Wow. I must admit there is a little side of me that is itching for mums and pumpkins and sunflowers. But we’ll suppress it a while longer, ok?
This weekend I plan to Netflix and chill. I mean that in the in the literal meaning. Maybe I’ll get to the gym on Saturday? I have a stack of magazines I have yet to open so that’s a task I make take into account. There’s also a little guy’s birthday party I need to run to Party City about. All these first world issues I have y’all.
And that is all I have to share with you today. I hope your weekend is blessed.
