Friday # 23

friday-1013309_1920

I have never been so happy to see a Friday than I am today!  After a very busy work week and life week I get to be super duper busy today with something I cannot blog about until a later date and also be super duper excited with some things I can blog about today!

Pirate Punch

OK so yesterday I posted a favorite summer drink. Well, here ya go – all the interest in it made me have to start out today’s post with the recipe.  You are going to think I’m on alcoholic…

You have two options:

Banana Rum (quarter cup, yes a quarter cup)

Pineapple Coconut Rum (another quarter cup)

Shake with some Simply Raspberry Lemonade (as much as you want)

Serve over ice in your Yeti or Feti.  Sip all day.

Do not drive.

OR

2 shots of Bacardi Gold

2 shots of Bacardi Silver

Add in your Simply Raspberry Lemonade to your pleasing.

Shake it up and drink over ice.

Do not drive.

100 Mile Challenge / Weekend Shenanigans!

Last weekend was busy for those two little faces.  They spent Friday night with their nana.  Those sleepovers are going to be few and far between.  Why?  Because my mom went “under contract” last weekend with her property.  If everything goes through she will be moving in July to await her new to her residence.  Saturday she took the kids fishing.  Sunday we decided to skip church and go hiking and to the swim beach.  We got in a little hike and had a picnic by the lake – then the storms came.  I joined the NC Parks/Forestry’s 100 Mile Challenge while at Lake Norman State Park.  I’m excited to announce that this means I will not be home on Sundays!

So I mentioned moving?

A little deep, dark secret to share with you.  I never planned on coming back to my hometown to live and lately I have been feeling a sadness that I am here.  Don’t get me wrong the place is OK.  There are good people, its laid back, but when you gauge yourself between happy and what you had hoped for I’m just below the black line. This isn’t a pitty paragraph so back off, Betty.  I’m blessed and I’m thankful – this is just a little taste of vinegar in the cereal milk. I really want to move.  I think this is part of being thirty-five and not too thrilled with certain things going on in this chapter of my life.  It isn’t running away it is just getting new surroundings. I pray a lot and sometimes I ask if I can get a positive change in my life.  I’m never choosey over the positive change.  I just ask for something happy, new, different, exciting,  Sometimes I get little answers and rewards and sometimes I get the back burner because I’m sure there are bigger more important requests (LOL).  But if we do get to change zip codes (ever)….I found a house.  Never mind it went to “pending” after a week of me watching it.

That's My Letter: "W" is for Wood Framed Canvas Tote, free printable school's out for summer:

This!  Well here’s the biggest part of this post yet.  Today marks the last day of my child’s third grade career.  It also marks the beginning of a public school hiatus.  Today we’re giving hugs to a wonderful teacher, giggling with our school friends one more time before the final bell rings, and then we are walking out of public school.

We have decided to finish up our elementary years by home schooling.  This was a decision that took a lot of time and the yes vote by all family members in the house.  Home school is not for every child, it is not for every parent, and I do not feel it is something to enter lightly.  However, I have a very driven daughter who is extremely self motivated slash self started, I have a pretty good background for this new endeavor, and she can advance on without having to be one of twenty in a class of varied cognitive abilities to master the basics.  I’ve bothered my home school mama friends both locally and via the blog and I’m very thankful for their advice and help!  We are excited to take this journey for the next two years and then re-enter middle school ready to go!  (Oh and I’m probably going to share this transitional journey here on the blog!)

And in case you are wondering – no, I’m not going to start donning long denim skirts and Michelle Duggar hair.

toss some confetti in the air and celebrate:

We are celebrating summer all weekend and hope you enjoy your weekend too!

  1. Thanks for the recipe! I will be heading to the liquor store to buy those items. And wow homeschool! You are an amazing woman. I know that homeschool is probably the best option for your kids but I know there’s no way I could ever do that so I will be praying for you next year and hope that you guys have a successful year!

    1. Just my daughter will be home schooled my son is still preschool and will continue to go to one he has been attending. I believe a post with the pirate punch recipe and that announcement ironically fit together -LOL! But prayers are immensely appreciated. It took a lot to get to this decision for sure! XO

  5. Homeschooling sounds like the best decision for your family! I bet it was hard and you put a lot of thought into it. How exciting for you all! If I was going to home school I would need that Pirate Punch, but it sounds like I already need it, it looks so YUMMY…anything with rum is my jam. Have a great weekend!

  6. I can totally feel you on the moving. I have battled with this so many times and sometimes think I may have missed out a little. I keep reminding myself I only have 7 years until all my babies are out of the house and I could go wherever I want. I think mid-thirties is definitely one of those times in life when you start questioning a little.

  7. I love how the drink recipe is also in the homeschool announcement, lol. But seriously, I wish you guys all the luck in the world. No one knows better than you what tools she needs to succeed. It speaks volumes about you as a mother that you are taking on this new role. I wish you both the very best.

  8. That’s so awesome! I couldn’t imagine home schooling my children, but I have several friends who do and I admire them! Go get ’em! And I get it. I would totally change zips if it didn’t mean losing my roots and family network of support!

  9. I lol’ed hard about your comment about not turning into Donna Duggar! Yes, I love your punch, I will be drinking this and not driving very soon. I hope you get that exciting changey thing you want, maybe this home schooling will be an inspiration to you. I hope that goes well and is a perfect fit for you and the little lady.
